Working with Design Tables in ENOVIA V5 VPM  

Saving a Design Table in a Product
When saving the sheet in ENOVIA, the Duplicate data in CATIA model option is automatically enabled. If the file is re-opened in another session, the model saved is loaded in session, but the sheet is not.
To synchronize the design table, right-click it, and select Synchronize (ENOVIA). If the design table icon is red, it means that the design table is not synchronized, if it is green, it is synchronized, if it is orange, it is disconnected so you cannot determine if it is synchronized or not.   • Use the Synchronize (ENOVIA) command in the following cases:
    • The design table is not synchronized.
    • You want to modify the table. To do so, double-click the design table in specification tree. The design table edition dialog box is displayed .Click Edit Table button to edit the design table. If you do not have write-access to the design table or if the file is locked by another user, you can still refer to the design table in read-only mode. In such case, the following warning message box is displayed:

  • Note that when working with design tables managed by other applications, like Product Engineering Optimizer for example, the Duplicate data in CATIA model option will not be automatically enabled when saving the document in ENOVIA V5 VPM (the model size can be too large or the design table file contains too much data): The file will only be projected if CATIA requires it and not if you want it.  
  • Note that if you want to modify/update a design table saved in ENOVIA V5 VPM in CATIA, you will have to check it out in ENOVIA V5 VPM first.
  • Note that the design table features cannot be saved in a product saved in Structure Exposed storage mode - Document not kept. They can be saved in a CATProduct in black box mode.  They can also be saved if you create a technological package under a product saved in Structure Exposed storage mode - Document not kept.
 
  • Dependency is supported in ENOVIA V5 VPM: Using the Impacted By and Impact On commands, you can determine which Part is attached to a design table. For more information about these commands, see Engineering LifeCycle User's Guide: Impacts On and Impacted By.
    • There are two kinds of design tables. They are both identified as such in the Links dialog box:
      • User design tables: They are used to drive design parameters.
      • Applicative design tables: They are created by applications. For example, a design table referenced by an optimization.
    Note that the dependency computation only works for User design tables.
  • When Saving a Design Table in ENOVIA V5 VPM, the design table for a CATPart or CATProduct is automatically attached to the part.
    • Since the association between the part and the document is established during the save from CATIA V5, only design tables created with this feature activated will be automatically associated to the corresponding part.  Design tables created prior to this must be associated to their corresponding part manually.
    • The design table is attached to the part reference with a representation link as a supplementary document.
    • Enabling this feature allows you to easily work with the design table in VPM Navigator and ENOVIA V5 VPM since it will be displayed in the VPM Navigator and Product Editor trees (in Product Editor, the representation and reference options on the Documents > Show  command must be checked, see Show Document window on the right)  as well as in the Document tab in product and part editor.  .
    • The attached document will have the same functionality as other similar documents in VPM Navigator and ENOVIA V5 VPM.
    • In CATIA V5,  Edit Links > Isolate (see the CATIA Infrastructure User Guide > Editing Document Links for more information on the Edit Links command) cannot be used to remove the design table's representation link to the part.
    • Design tables will not be revisioned when saving to ENOVIA V5 VPM from CATIA V5 using the Revision All option.
  • Naming the design table: 2 design tables cannot have the same name. For existing models, it is highly recommended to use the ExportContentToFile command in ENOVIA V5 VPM: The link will be replaced in case of name conflict. In case of name conflict, you will not be able to save your design table in your database.
  • If you open a CATIA session and use an ENOVIA-based design table, you will not see the modifications made by another user to the design table if they were made during your CATIA session. To access the modified design table, quit CATIA and re-start it.  For example:
    If User A saves a Part and a design table in ENOVIA and
      User B loads this Part and synchronizes the design table and
      User A modifies the design table and saves it again in ENOVIA
    Then User B will not see this modification if he works in the same session.
       
    But if User A saves a Part and a design table in ENOVIA and
      User B opens a session but does not load the Part and the design table and
      User A modifies the design table and saves it in ENOVIA
    Then User B can access the modified data after loading the Part and synchronizing the design table.
  • Locking a Design Table in a Concurrent Engineering Environment: While doing Explicit document locking on Documents in the database, a search is performed in the database to check if more recent version exists. If it is the case, a warning message is displayed (See the Example)

    Example:

    USER 1

    • Creates a PART containing a Design Table.
    • Saves it in ENOVIA using the Unlock all option.

    User 2

    • Searches for the Design Table Created by User1 and unlocks it.

    USER 3

    • Searches for the same Design Table and locks it.
    • Searches for the Part created by User 1 and opens it in CATIA using the Auto Lock option.
    • Selects the Design Table and performs a synchronization with ENOVIA.
    • Modifies the Design Table and saves all in ENOVIA using the Unlock all option.
    • Searches for the Design Table and unlocks it.

    USER1

    • Now User1 Searches for the Design Table and locks it. The following message is displayed:
