Reconciliation and Drawings

The objective of CATDrawing Reconciliation is to describe briefly CATDrawing structure in perspective of Reconciliation operation.

There are two kinds of relationship pertaining to drafting relationship with assembly structure and geometry.

  • Specification relationship: represents the specification which will recompute the drawing when geometry or assembly structure is modified. For instance, in the case of dimensions, the drawing will reference the real geometry in the CATPart; for views, the drawing reminds you what needs to be projected in term of Part or assembly structure.
  • Result relationship: captures the association between the 2D geometry generated and the 3D geometry which has been projected in the view to generate those 2D elements.
  • It is highly recommended to update the drawing at the end of the process (including the locked views), while reconciling a drawing. As a result, no Ghost links are generated and you can preserve at maximum the associativity of the drawing with regards to the assembly structure and geometry.
  1. Reconcile the drawing with the assembly structure and the geometry.

  2. Save the assembly structure.

  3. On the Reconciled drawing, apply Edit+Links+Replace on the geometry or assembly referenced.

  4. Update the whole drawing.
Note: If some of the views are locked, it is necessary to unlock them.

  5. Save the CATDrawing in ENOVIA.

This methodology is applied while executing the Reconcile batch utility.

  • When you apply –unlockViews option, all the locked drafting views are also updated.
When you apply –noDraftingUpdate option, it prevents the automatic update of CATDrawings associated to modified parts and modified assemblies or when you try to Reconcile and save a CATDrawing without updating the drawing, you will encounter several issues. For example, the storage mode used for the assembly structure (workpackage or structure exposed) and the rule applied.
Note: To reduce the impact, it is advisable not to update the whole CATDrawing, but this will not guarantee whether the links associated with the drawing on the file geometry will remain or not.

  • In Publication Exposed Reconciliation mode, when you apply Reload from VPDM rule without drawing update, the CATDrawing referenced both on the ENOVIA data and file data will not be saved . The reload operation in Reconciliator depends on Edit+Links+Replace technology while for CATDrawing, it only updates Specification relationships and not Result relationships. The drawing updates only re-evaluates Result relationships where the drawing update will remove all old Result relationships and compute the new ones.

  • In Structure Exposed Reconciliation mode, when you apply Reload from VPDM rule without drawing update, you will have the same issue. In addition, a large part of drawing associativity with geometry and assemblies structure will be lost, if CATDrawing update is not performed.
