Exporting Structure Skeletons

This task shows you how to export simplified wireframe geometry (the skeleton and section) of your structures. Two formats are proposed:
  • STEP AP203 (only if you have the appropriate license)
  • CATPart.
1. Click the Export button. If the button is not available then click Tools - Customize and select the Commands tab. In the Categories pane select All Commands and in the Commands pane select Export Structure Skeleton and drag it onto a toolbar.

The Save As dialog box appears.
2. Click the Save as type list and select the desired format.
You can save the simplified wireframe geometry as:
  • a V5 CATPart (.CATPart). The CATPart is added to the original document.
  • a STEP AP203 document (.stp) if you have the appropriate license.
If you don't have a STEP AP203 license, then this format is not proposed and you can only save the skeleton as a CATPart document. 
3. For STEP documents, specify the location of the document to be saved and, if necessary, enter a file name.
4. Click Save to save the skeleton in a file in the desired format.
The STEP format lets you exchange data with other CAD systems to, for example, perform FEM analysis.
