Enriching Meshes

This task shows you how to enrich meshes by inserting points from a cloud of points:
  • Points from the cloud are projected on the mesh.
  • Those points must be within an acceptable distance to the mesh.
  • The triangle on which a point is projected is replaced by three new triangles.
The three initial vertices and the new point are taken as vertices of those triangles.
This means that the initial vertices are kept.
Open the MeshEnrichment01.CATPart model the from the samples directory.
  1. Click Mesh Enrichment  .
The Mesh Enrichment dialog box is displayed:

  2. Select the Mesh you want to enrich.

Select the Cloud from which you will take points.

is available to hide or show the selection.

  3. Two parameters are available. If required, select the corresponding check box and enter a value.

    • Threshold: Maximum acceptable distance between the mesh and the points to be inserted.
    • Direction: By default, the projection direction of the cloud onto the mesh is normal to the mesh. You can define another projection direction to manage 2D configurations or some problems such as high cliff, back draft or small local density of points.
      A contextual menu is available:
  4. Click Apply. The new mesh is computed:

  5. Click OK to validate and exit the dialog box.
A new mesh Mesh Enrichment.x is created.
Note that it is a datum, not a feature.
