Creating Simultaneous or Synchronous Activities

This procedure describes how to create either simultaneous or synchronous activities.  A simultaneous activity means that both arms are moving at the same time; a synchronous activity means that multiple arms are moving at the same time AND arriving at specific positions and measurements at the same time. This mode is usually used when two arms are measuring symmetric features on two opposite sides of a symmetric part.

The PERT view demonstrates what is occurring during a simultaneous activity:

You must create both an Arm1 and Arm2 activity before you can create any simultaneous, common, or synchronous activities.  Use the sample file W_ACTIVITY.CATProcess.
  1. Click Simultaneous Activity .

  2. Select an insertion point in the process.

The PPR tree automatically creates three child activities for the simultaneous activity: a common, arm1 and arm2 activity.
On the PPR tree, all sequential activities appear with a yellow mark on the PPR tree.

All Simultaneous Activities appear with a purple mark.

All Simultaneous activities automatically contain three children:  an Arm1 Activity, an Arm2 Activity, and a Common Activity.  All activities that you subsequently add to the Simultaneous Activity must be children of one of the three main sub activities.

Within the Simultaneous or Synchronous Activities, there is a limit of one Arm1 and Arm2 Activity.
Synchronous Activity can be used in the same fashion as described above.
