Inserting Images (Raster or Vector)

This functionality allows you to insert images on every operating system. It is useful for V4 Drawings translation.
In this task, we will see how to insert raster images (*.bmp, *.jpg, *.tif or *.tiff (the .tif files must not be LZW compressed), etc.), vector images (*.cgm. *.gl, *.gl2) or SVG images (Scalable Vector Graphics) as native V5 drafting, layout elements. The scenario below provides an example using a raster image, but the procedure is the same for vector images.
  • Define a new sheet or layout and a view.
  • Insert a frame and title block (choose the Drawing_Titleblock_Samples1).
  • Save the logo.tif document on your computer (to do this, right-click "logo.tif" and choose Save Target As in the contextual menu).
  1. Select Insert > Picture.

A dialog box appears, allowing you to browse your disk.
Pictures can only be inserted from the file system on your disk and not a database.

  2. Select the file "logo.tif" you have previously imported. The image is imported in your drawing.

  3. Click on the image to select it. Scaling manipulators appear. Drag one of the manipulators to decrease the picture size.

    You get this:

    • In the Properties dialog box available from the image's contextual menu, on the Picture tab, check the Lock aspect ratio option to make sure images will keep their ratio aspect.
    • Use the Shift key to snap to the grid.
  4. Drag the image to the required position.

If the image in the system is modified, the image in the sheet or layout is not updated. The image has to be re-inserted to incorporate the updates.
  5. To change the orientation of an imported picture:
    1. Select the picture and select Edit > Properties.
      The Properties dialog box appears.
    2. In the Picture tab > Size area, select the reference in the Reference box.
You can select the orientation in the following references:
      • Sheet
      • View for drawing and layout design sheets
      • 2D component for drawing and layout detail sheets
    3. Select the orientation in the Orientation box.
You can select the following orientations:
      • Horizontal
      • Vertical
      • Fixed Angle
    4. If you select Fixed Angle as the orientation, the Angle box is available for edition.
    5. Enter the angle value in the Angle box.
The angle can vary between -360˚ to +360˚.
  6. Perform cut, copy, paste, transform, rotate, symmetry, and mirror operations on the picture.
    Notes:
    • Cut, copy, paste operations retain the orientation reference and the angle.
    • Free Rotation cannot be used for rotation.
Important:
In 2D Layout for 3D Design:
  • Pictures inserted in the layout view are always visualized in 3D model, unless the respective sheet, layout, or view is hidden.
  • Pictures inserted in a view or 2D background are always viewed on top of other elements in the 3D model.
  • Pictures are always visualized behind any 2D geometric element or annotation of a view when these elements are in the view or in the 2D background of the view.

  • Pictures in a drawing view can be exported in a new layout view as a dress-up element.

  • Pictures inserted in a layout by instantiating the 2D components in a drawing are not visualized in the 3D model.

  • When generating drawings from layouts, pictures in layout are generated as pictures in drawing. In this case, a vector image with white elements is generated as it is.
