Working with the Sharpness Mode

This task shows how to accurately detect the edges sharpness and display all detected sharp edges.

Open the Sharpness.CATPart document.
  You can select and deselect this view mode to accurately detect the edges' sharpness and display all detected sharp edges when the Shading with Edges without Smooth Edges view mode is active.

  1. Select the Shading with Edges without Smooth Edges view mode in the View toolbar.

    The geometry is displayed in the selected mode.

  2. Click Sharpness mode from the Analysis toolbar.

    All sharp edges are now visible.

This topic provides you with the additional information about displaying all sharp edges accurately using the Sharpness mode.

When the Shading with Edges without Smooth Edges view mode is selected, sharp edges are displayed as black lines. However, for performance reasons, some sharp edges are not displayed at all.

The Sharpness mode allows to display all edges detected as sharp.
You can start the Sharpness mode command from the Analysis toolbar.

You can also start the Sharpness mode command while another command is already running without having to interrupt it.

If an exclusive command is started while the Sharpness mode command is already running, it cancels the Sharpness mode, and the visualization returns back to standard one.

The Sharpness mode command is automatically cancelled (and the visualization switches back to standard one) when you
  • launch a Feature creation command,
  • edit a Feature,
  • perform a global update,
  • launch another visualization command (e. g. the WYSIWYG command).
  • When you select the Sharpness mode command, clicking another visualization command's icon (e. g. the WYSIWYG command's icon) cancels the Sharpness mode command without launching the other visualization command.
  • When you select a visualization command (e. g. the WYSIWYG command), clicking the Sharpness mode command's icon cancels the current visualization command without launching the Sharpness mode command.
  • When you select the Sharpness mode command, some differences with ConnectChecker may appear in specific cases, especially when the sharpness along the edge varies a little bit around the limit value, which is 0.5 deg. Using such an edge is then not stable as many operators do not behave identically with smooth edges as with sharp edges.
